An escape from classrooms and into a place where students go to the “fountain of knowledge” in showing how important the media center is.
The media center gives students the opportunity to relax and just take a break from school during the day. Even though there are students that do not come to the media center very often, it is still nice to know what the atmosphere is like.
Fellow students that come to the media center learn new things and gain experience. Sophomore Emily Mckenzie said, “I have gained, from experience, that a media center is a great place to learn new things and connect with fellow classmates.” While sophomore Gloria Garcia says, “I think we all gain just a bit more knowledge about various topics and subjects.” Not only do students gain experience from the media center, but also the staff members that are in charge. Mr. Nathan Mayer says what he gained from experience from the media center, “I’ve gained skills like being able to adapt to an ever changing environment. Because of working in here I’ve become excellent at multitasking due to bouncing from book related stuff to computer related things, always on the fly. It definitely keeps me on my toes.”

Just before students graduate from high school, they might just have memories that are worth sharing. In this case, students share their memories they had while at the media center. Garcia said, “For a Marketing project my group and I had to videotape the whole school so we sort of got on top of the library tables to video tape!” Not only can memories come from a fun day, but also from chaotic situation as well. Mr. Ben Waymouth said his memorable moment came from the second day of the Macbook distribution. “The second day, the day after we had a power outage at 8:30 in the morning.” He also noted that students had issues with logging in as well has having network difficulties.
The media center is a place at school that can be important to fellow students. Mr. Waymouth explains this by saying, “I think the media center is very important to students because we are the location that houses resources whether it being a book or computer. We help students with projects and we help find information.” Just like there is a fountain of youth, here in PHS there is the “information fountain.” Even though “students may not realize that we have things that they can come and check out. Students that don’t come through our door should come explore.” said Mr. Waymouth. With that in mind why not give it a try to visit the media center and see it’s importance to PHS.
