Students spend seven hours in school every day of the week, but students discuss what they do once the school day is over.
After the school day comes to an end one may go home. Freshman Kyra Andrzejewski says that she goes straight home or to her grandparents’ house. Students take part in activities after school. Sophomore Ty Irwin said, “I go to basketball practice then I go home. If don’t have practice then I go to Lifeplex.” While others spend time after school volunteering, junior Nadia Baca said, “I usually go straight home except on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday I go to Lincoln Jr. High because I volunteer there for “5 Star.” Wednesday I walk to youth group. Thursday I volunteer at a soup kitchen.” Other students go to work, senior David Walsh said, “most days I usually go to work but on my days off I usually hang with my friends.”
There are different activities students and their friends can take part in together. Sophomore Rigoberto Calix-Reyes says that when he hangs out with friends they play Xbox or play cards. Freshman Kyle McGinty said, “We play video games and play football outside.” Andrzejewski said, “We just hang out, maybe go to the movie theatre or stay home. We have fun wherever we are together.” Senior Aaron Coffey said, “[We] watch movies, maybe get something to eat, or just listen to music and chill.”
Some students take part in activities on the weekends. Andrzejewski says that she is on the bowling league and she bowls every Saturday. Irwin says that he takes part in basketball on the weekends there are usually two games. One that is away and another that is a home game. Baca said, “I work on the weekends, otherwise I go to the mall.”
When students are not at school some spend time with their families. Sophomore Lukas Neidlinger said that his family spends time together when they are eating dinner at the dining room table. Kelly says that watching television and eating is how she spends time with her family out of school. Sophomore Courtney Miller said, “[We] go out to eat or watch movies or go places.” Andrzejewski said, “[We] go out to eat, or get together to eat at my grandparents and usually watch some movies.” Coffey said, “We might watch television together, or just joke and laugh amongst ourselves.”
Students define what quality time means to them. Baca said, “Quality time is being able to spend time with someone and have fun. An example is spending the whole day with your friend.” Neidlinger says that quality time to him is being able to see his family. Miller also says that spending time with her family is what quality time means to her. Walsh said, “Hanging with friends or being alone with no worries about homework or work and just relax and lounge around.”
