Robotics club is a new activity taking place at Plymouth High School.
Robotics club is a club available to all high school students for them to develop their robot building skills and to pit them against other robots in competitive games. Each season a new game is picked and the teams compete to build the best robot to accomplish the task. In each tournament there are preliminary rounds in the morning to eliminate the faulty designs and then the teams that make it out of the preliminary rounds go on to compete in the actual games in the afternoon. The remaining teams then go on to form a three team alliance and compete against other teams until there is only one winning team.
This year’s game is “Toss Up,” and the student scores by getting the robot to pick up a ball and put it in one of the several scoring areas. Whichever team scores the highest at the end of the round wins. PHS has a total of four teams, each has their own different design. The primary drivers are sophomore Zach Hutchinson, juniors Kennedy Schnieders, Josh Kuhn, Matt Feece and senior Jason Doody. In all this club has over 30 members who compete on the teams. This club has helped bring students together and build some amazing things.

In December the PHS teams competed at the ‘Warren Central Robotics Toss Up Qualifier’ tournament competition and did very well. Schneider’s team did very well advancing quickly through the preliminary rounds and the secondary rounds and went on to get second place over all. This was very impressive for their first tournament of the season and they have another tournament coming up in January.
