As the fall season for sports are coming to an end, athletes reflect on how their teams have done this season.

The girls soccer team ended their season about two weeks ago in their second game of sectionals. Junior Allie Wright describes a normal day at practice as “being on the field by 3:15,  start stretching, then we have our conditioning portion of practice. After that the JV and Varsity split up. The Varsity usually sits and talks to coach for a while and then starts drilling.” Personally, junior Megan Maxwell thinks that thinks their fall season had done very well. They have overcome many situations including injuries. Both Maxwell and Wright agreed that the team’s highlight of the season was beating Northwood five to four. Even though the season has come to an end, the impact the players had on each other will live on with them for a long time.

Running into the near end of their season, the boys cross country team is now competing in Semi-State. A normal day at practice for the team consists of, “a small meeting, warm-ups round the school, plyometrics, a 3-5 mile run, a cool down, then meet again before leaving,” freshman Trevor Fisher said. Freshman Jordan Morrow said that the season has gone well for them, even though they have not won all the meets; the team has seen improvements and had a great time together. Morrow describes their team as “crazy because we do the most odd and most random things you could think of.” The boys cross country team participated in regionals on October 19th, and junior Kennedy Schnieders was the only boy to advance to Semi-state.

Junior varsity captain of the cheerleading team, sophomore Sarah Walker says the team’s highlight of the season was cheering at the pep rally this year. She really enjoyed that because the cheerleaders got to lead all the classes in cheers and dances. What motivates Walker while she cheers is “the crowd because when we cheer they cheer with us and we get them going.” She said their practice usually consists of stretching, running three laps around the track, and practicing their chants. Walker said that the team’s greatest characteristic is that they get along so well and help each other out.

Winning their last regular season game last Friday, the football team is now preparing for their first sectional game this week. Junior Ryan Mac Lain says their football practice is the hardest on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, then they have pre-game on Thursday. Mac Lain’s highlight of the season was “beating concord. We played for a great cause in front of a huge home crowd and played a great game.” The best word that describes the team is physical toughness because everybody on the team has a great mindset and is always working hard. He thinks that the season has done very well, even though they stumbled and lost two games. The football team has their first sectional game this Friday, October 25th and they play host to Riley High School.

Sprinting into the near end of the season, the girls cross country team previously competed in regionals. Senior Darcy Fisher said that is has been a very consistent season and is happy with the outcomes. The best word that describes the team is family, because they all get along so well and have each others backs. Since cross country is a very team oriented sport, Fisher said what motivates her the most is to try her hardest so she does not let her team down. The girls cross country team has two runners advancing to Semi State, juniors Libby Read and Abby Patrick.

The boys soccer team finished their season about two weeks ago. Varsity player, junior Clay Marshall said what motivates him is the love for the sport. “There is just a drive for me to do my best in the sport I love. I can’t really explain it.” Marshall said that their season as a team had not gone so well and did not reach their full potential. He received an injury during one of games and had to miss six games due to that. For the soccer team, practices consist of warming-up, conditioning, and working on ball-handling skills. Marshall’s highlight of the season was making it to the Sectional Championship on October 12th.

The girls golf team finished their season on September 28th. Senior Makayla Fox said their practice consisted of putting and chipping, hitting the range and then possibly going onto the course. What motivates Fox to do her best on the course are her coaches and teammates. Fox thinks that overall the girls golf season went well. Her highlight of the season was growing together as a team. Even though the season ended, the girls on the team have friendships that will last in and out of season.

After having a productive season, the boys tennis team came to an end about a week ago. Sophomore Richard Cooper said that for how young their team is the season went really well, and they had a few conference champs. A normal day at practice is doing warm ups, practicing drills, splitting the JV team and varsity, then conditioning at the end. What motivates Cooper to do his best is the “completion of the sport and trying to defeat my opponent.” His highlight of the season was participating in the JV tournaments with his teammates because it was enjoyable.  Cooper said that dedication describes their team the best because the team always does their best and has a desire to win.

Having their last season game last week, the volleyball team is now preparing for Sectionals this week. A normal day at practice is doing warm-ups, doing drills, and then scrimmaging. Varsity senior Emily Eveland says their season has “been successful. We haven’t played completely to our potential and we still need to peek.” A word that describes the volleyball team is enthusiasm because the team gets so excited when the games gets going. Eveland’s highlight of the season was when they beat Muncie Burris for the first time in the volleyball’s team history. Eveland’s expectations for Sectionals is that she wants “to put all parts of my game together and really play my best.”

Even though many teams have concluded their seasons, the volleyball, football and cross country teams are still competing.
