“Trick-or-treat!” The words said by many children on Halloween night. While some high school students believe they have outgrown Halloween, others still go door to door dressed up wanting candy.
High school students still take part in celebrating Halloween and go trick-or-treating. Freshman Victoria Leazenby trick-or-treats for UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) which is an agency of the United Nations responsible for programs to aid education and the health of children and mothers in developing countries. Others just like an opportunity to dress up. Junior Stephanie Boyle said she “hands out candy and tricks my family into not recognizing me when I wear costumes.”
Thinking back on previous Halloween years, students reminisce about their funniest Halloween costume memories. Junior Matthew Feece said his favorite costume memory was when he dressed like “Legolas from Lord of The Rings.” Freshman Daisy Lewis said, “When I was a baby I was dressed up as the first pea in the pod. My face was the first one and then there were two more peas in the pod after me.” Senior Jessica Beagle said that she dressed up as Cinderella because she loved princesses.
Younger siblings want to follow the older teenagers around and be like them. Taking siblings trick-or-treating around town can be fun. Freshman James Doody said, “I take my siblings trick or treating along Michigan Street.” Junior Kristina Bannow said she does not take her younger siblings trick-or-treating but she said, “I go with friends sometimes.”
Some families have traditions that take part in every Halloween. Senior Shelby Pratt said, “We have so many traditions it’s almost unbelievable. We carve pumpkins, get all of the yummy seasonal food, decorate the house, go trick-or-treating with my nephews, and light lots of yummy pumpkin smelling candles.” Freshman Emory Smith said that she goes to a pumpkin patch, picks pumpkins, and carves them. Freshman Kendall Dreibelbis said one of her favorite Halloween decorations is the spiderwebs she hangs around her house because “it makes the house look creepy.”
Whenever a holiday comes around students like to watch popular movies that involve the holiday. Beagle said she watches “Hocus Pokus or Halloween town, I think its so cute.” Pratt said, “My favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus because we watch it every year. It has just the right amount of creepy and funny.”
On Halloween night high school students still let their inner child come out and celebrate.
