Seniors are preparing to bid a farewell to a school that they have attended for four years. They are not the only ones that will say good bye to the school at the end of the year.
After eight years of working at Plymouth High School, Mrs. Mary Pat Glaub, choral director, is one of four teachers that will be retiring at the end of the year.
Mrs. Glaub began to think about retirement, “last year and made my final decision in the spring of 2012.” She states that her family is excited about her retirement but her students are not as ecstatic.
Mrs. Glaub is looking forward to doing a variety of things once she retires. Her husband and she plan to travel “quite a bit.” They will be going to Europe, “Rome and then England.” This trip has Mrs. Glaub feeling very “excited.” With Mrs Glaub retiring, she will now be able to spend more time with her 5 children and 4 grandchildren. Since Mrs. Glaub has a son in Florida sh and her husband plan to spend, “a good part of the year” there.
Retirement can be bittersweet. There is the aspect of Mrs. Glaub being able to spend time with her family but the bitter part about retirement is that she will miss her students. She states that her students were a big influence on her “getting back into teaching and I will miss working with them the most.”
The hardest part for Mrs. Glaub about retiring is not just saying goodbye to her students but also to her fellow teachers whom she has “grown close to.”
Mrs. Glaub says that the best part about being a music teacher is the she “feel[s] like music is a class that my kids can come to make them feel good every day. Yes, we are constantly learning about music but we are also learning how to work as a group and experience such a wide range of emotions through making music. We make lifelong friends through these musical experiences and this class and other extra-curricular [activities].” She states that she is “honored to be a part of shaping students’ lives.”
Though there will be sweet moments and sad moments to retiring, Mrs. Glaub’s plans for retiring will be to “Enjoy life!!!!!!!!!!”
