Homecoming is a very interactive week at PHS, from decorating the hallways to dressing up every day. A great thing about homecoming is that all of the students in the school can be involved if they like.

During homecoming, there is a huge competition between each grade on who gets the spirit stick on Friday during the pep rally. The competition includes what grade has the best hallway decorations, most people who dressed up and most spirit at the pep rally. The pep rally gets crazy and all of the students really get into it. It is a true experience of what school spirit is. Senior Cassie Gaines says, “I really get fired up with the games and class competitions to see just how loud we can get.” All grades get real competitive during the pep rally.

Dressing up is one of the main things that really make homecoming week fun. Students get the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone. Junior Ty Shively says, “I try as much as I can to participate, depending on if I have the right things for the certain day or not.” Every homecoming PHS has is different.  This week’s theme is Seasons. Monday is summer, Tuesday is fall, Wednesday is winter, Thursday is spring and Friday is red/white day.

Another part of homecoming is decorating the hallway. Students dedicated their Sunday afternoon by coming  to the school and decorating  their class hallway. Each grade gets a different season. During the fall homecoming, students could only decorate a sheet. Students were not sure on how much they liked the idea of it at first. Sophomore Mason Reed said, “I liked it a lot because it was just all the skill that you need to have.” This time, the students were able to decorate the whole hallway again. All the hallways are different and really creative depending on the theme they have.

The final thing PHS does for homecoming is the pep rally. Students say that the pep rally is their all time favorite activity during homecoming week. Senior Brittany Himes’ favorite part is the spirit stick. The spirit stick is what all classes are competing for during the week. At the pep rally, the students play games, and the winner gets another point added on. Before announcing the winner, however, they have a class competition. Whoever is the loudest gets another point added.

Winter homecoming is a really fun way to get the classes together like a big family. It also gives people a chance to break out of their shell and be who they really are.
