Floral, military, bright colors, and mixed and bold prints are some of the top styles for this spring. Spring trends are starting to make their way into PHS, and while some students follow them, others are sticking to their own fashion sense.
Clothing helps students express themselves. Sophomore Alexandria Schaffer said “people need to stop wearing what other people wear or what they think is ‘in’ and just dress like themselves.” Following the trends doesn’t always mean wearing what others wear though. Sophomore Madison Good explains that she tries to follow the fashion trends but she likes “almost anything.” “I like figuring out ways to put certain articles of clothing together in an outfit,” Good said. Good tries to follow the trends, but Schaffer explains, “I just wear what I want to. I like to set the trends, not follow them.”
Spring style for some girls means skirts and flats. For others, it is shorts and tanks. No matter what, everyone has his or her own preference and style when it comes to clothing. “I think I do [have my own fashion sense]. I like to branch out from the average ‘Hollister’ look. I like the classic look but with an edge,” junior Kaitlyn Bottorff said. Bright colors and floral prints are the top spring style choices for 50 students who were surveyed during lunches A through E. The spring fashion survey took place on March 16 and 28% of those surveyed favored floral, while 62% preferred bright colors.
With all of the April showers that are expected to come, rain boots are becoming more prevalent among students. “I wore rain boots last year a lot and everybody made fun of me, but now everyone wears them,” freshman Sidney Listenberger said. Good has two pairs of rain boots and says, “I love them, especially for rainy days!” Others are not so fond of the rubber, waterproof boots though. Bottorff does not like them at all, saying that “they don’t even look comfortable.” Cute shoes are in Good’s wardrobe for spring, and rain boots can add the “cute” factor and fit many students’ personalities and style.
Clothing can be used to show individualism and to express oneself. “[What I wear and shop for] depends on my mood,” sophomore Allison Berger said. There are many different reasons for what one will wear, and with so many different trends for this spring there is much to choose from! “During the winter I get bored with jeans and pull out of some of my spring and summer clothes to wear,” Good said. This spring’s trends will surely fill everyone’s wardrobe with excitement.
