Any student who loves water and wants to stay in shape for other sports should consider swimming and diving at PHS. Head coach, Mrs. Leanne Senter, said that she “expects about 25 [students] total.” Expect to see some familiar faces in the pool such as junior Lauren Wiegand, senior Brooke Wagner, freshman Bridget Schafer, sophomore Emily Cochern, freshman Alex Vancza, junior Trevor Grimmett, and sophomore Kirkland Hettich.
Junior Devin Gritton said, “I [have] been competitive swimming since my freshman year and I [have] loved it ever since.”
Take a chance and get in shape, because Coach Senter said that “by joining the PHS Swimming and Diving team, you will be in the best shape ever. Swimming is the best all-around form of exercise and it is a lifetime activity.” If any PHS students want to join, the last date was Friday October 30 for girls and is Friday November 13 for boys. The date is extended for those who participate in a fall sport; these students also get a week off before they start swimming. If you are at all interested in swimming or diving, go to the athletic office and speak to Coach Senter or visit the athletic office.
Freshman Bridget Schafer said, ”I may not be a good swimmer, but it’s one of those things that I’m happy to work hard at and improve in. I come back from every practice, exhausted, but happy.” There is a sport out there for everyone, and every PHS student should be participating in a sport inside or outside of the PCSC provided sports, and swimming is a viable option.
Gritton said that “I believe that people should try swimming with the PHS Swimming and Diving team because it’s great exercise, you meet incredible people that later become your best-friend, and it is another great way to express and or [relieve] stress.” Doing swimming will introduce you to a new type of people, the people who encourage you to do your best and go for the gold.
Gritton also says that “I enjoy the fact that we are like a great big family, and we do everything together. I mean really you can’t see one swimmer without another one following behind them. Plus, I also love how everyone is needed on the swim team and everyone has a spot for you on the team.” Take a chance and become a swimmer for a season. All PHS spring coaches should be proud to have in-shape players on their team thanks to swimming and diving.
