Some girls say it is not the ingredients that intrigues them to wear makeup, it is the confident results they get that does.
Girls decide when they want to start wearing makeup at different ages. Some may decide to start wearing it at a young age like Freshman Bayli Cczarnecki said, “I’ve been wearing makeup since I was in 4th grade.” Some say they have recently started wearing it like Sophomore Miranda Dunn said, “I started wearing it my freshman year.” Before a girl starts wearing makeup something influences in the first place to start wearing it. Of the six girls interviewed, majority said they were influenced to start wearing it by someone. Sophomore Kierra Willis said, “My sister and friends wore makeup, so I wanted to attempt to wear it also,” while Sophomore Emily Miller had the same influence, “My sister.”
As girls start wearing makeup they decide what brands they like best and how much they are willing to spend on makeup. Some girls like the big brands of makeup and some it doesn’t really matter to them. Girls can spend high amount of money on makeup while other girls could spend a little amount and still be just as confident as the girls who spend a lot of money on it. Sophomore Emily Miller said, “I love NARS, Urban Decay and Bare Minerals.” When Emily buys makeup she says year round she spends, “$550.” While on the other hand Sophomore Miranda Dunn stated, “I don’t have a preference on brands” she also said, “I spend like 7 dollars on makeup.” While Sophomore Kierra Willis spent around the same, “I’m not picky with my makeup, so most of my makeup comes from the dollar store. I rarely buy new makeup.”
When going out and buying their makeup girls say they don’t really look at ingredients when buying makeup they look at the results.

Senior Ellen Smith said, “I don’t look at the ingredients because I assume the company uses safe ingredients.” While Sophomore Kierra Willis agreed, “I don’t look at the ingredients in them. I never really thought about seeing what is in them.” If girls aren’t looking at the ingredients, it must be the results that intrigue them to buy that makeup. Freshman Bayli Czarnecki said, “I have more self confidence when I wear makeup. When I don’t, I don’t feel as well.” Sophomore Kierra Willis had the same outlook, “Wearing makeup makes me feel more confident in myself, because I look better with it on.”
After a girl decides to start wearing makeup, and deciding which kind she likes and buys it, she now applies it. When applying makeup girls take different amount of time to apply. It may also depend on what day it is for how long it takes them to put it all on. On a school day it may take less amount of time than on the weekend or vice versa. Some girls may take the same amount of time on both the weekday and weekend. Sophomore Emily Miller said, “It takes me 45 minutes, during the week and on the weekend.” Senior Mariah Brumley takes different amount of time during the weekday than on the weekend, “On the weekends it take about 10 minutes and during school like 5.” While Senior Ellen Smith said, “It only takes a minute.”
Girls have different views on makeup. They spend different amounts of money on it, they wear different kinds, and it takes them different amount of time to put it on. All this does not matter though when it is the results that make them a confident individual.
