Teacher Mrs. Deon makes simple goals for the New Year, so she can actually achieve them. New Year Resolutions are about new changes to a person’s life, a new perspective on things, and how he/she looks at life. With the new year rapidly approaching, students and faculty offer their opinions on New Year’s Resolutions.
Counselor, Mrs. Scheetz said “ [My goals] to live healthier,(eat better, exercise more), save money, send more cards to people,(it is always nice getting a card in the mail, visiting my Dad more often.” Like many, however, sometimes resolutions may be hard to follow through. “People get lazy and go back to their old habits,” Mrs. Scheetz. Although some of these tasks prove to be difficult she plans to complete them stating, “ [I will] take a little time for myself to get some of these things done.”
In addition, she thinks that the most popular resolution is to lose weight.
Mrs. Magee, school nurse, states “ [my goals] are to write more thank you cards, exercise more,/run more, and spend less.” She comments, that resolutions fall through because either they are too difficult (like losing weight) or people get too busy and it is easier to quit.
Even though everybody makes new resolutions, there is always the ones that are popular during the century. People do not go through with it. Mrs. Deon says “most people do something drastic like quit smoking or lose 50 pounds.” Mrs Scheetz comments that, “losing weight” is the popular resolutions. Mrs. Magee, said she also thinks that being more organized is a popular resolution.
“It is hard to change,” states Mrs. Magee. Making changes is difficult for people, that’s why people wait to make changes in their lives at the end of the year. Mrs Dean comments, “ a new year is a symbol of a new beginning”. Even though it is a new beginning, it is also a time where people change their way of looking at things, such as, helping people more often or helping the community. Mrs. Scheetz, states “because January 1st is the start of the New Year so I think everyone wants a fresh start.
Mr. Olson’s (dean of students) goals are to “lose 10-20 lbs.” Most people also choose this resolution as well. Mr. Olson, thinks that “the New Year is a starting point, almost like a new trimester.” “It is a time to stop, reflect, and restart is people’s minds,” states Mr. Olson. Even though, it is hard to start over the New Year, It is also a time to rethink our habits and change them. “It is a blank slate to write upen.” Mr. Olson thinks that “people’s lives get busy and they lose focus on the goal.” Mr. Olson states that he follows his goals “50% of the time.” People think it is hard to follow through with their resolutions, but if they make time then they can be successful. Most resolutions fall through because“People often don’t share them or have accountability towards accomplishing them” states Mr. Olson.
People have resolutions to feel better about themselves and to make a new beginning for life and outlook on things.
