The next installment of vacation comes near, and along with spring break comes the famous spring cleaning. It is known for a time to organize and prepare oneself for a fresh start of warm air.

Seeing that spring is closing in on the students of PHS, they are all excited for their vacation.  It is finally here, no more storms of ice or snow. The end of winter and the cool breeze is a sign of the famous spring cleaning. Most students are ready and pumped for spring break, but at the same time are down in the dumps when they hear the word cleaning. Senior Fabian Baca says, “No, not excited to clean, but I am excited for spring.” However, there are some who think otherwise. Freshman Itzayana Arriaga said with a smile, “Yes I’m excited to make my yard look pretty.”

With spring break about a week away most people are planning for work and labor, while others prepare to be ready for the week of relaxation. The ones who are doing their spring cleaning are going to have a fresh start for spring. Clean now and have less work to do later, oh yeah! Most people like the sound of that. Preparation for people such as senior Jacob Pritchard said, “My form of Spring Cleaning is by working outside; getting branches off the roof, painting my fence, mowing, digging and leveling out the yard, and fixing a lot of parts around the house.”

Cleaning for most people is a hassle, but it does make the house look pretty. One would say “Who could pass up such an awesome opportunity?” but some do and that is their loss.  It is a drag for most students considering cleaning is like homework and their parents are the teachers. “I think people spring clean to get all their warmer clothes out and put their winter clothes away.” said junior Rachel Calcagno.

When it comes to spring cleaning, students will not have to stay inside and just clean the house. Some are going outside and are able to enjoy the fresh air and warmth of the sun as they clean the yard to make it look better and much more beautiful. It is also a great time for having garage sales and yard sales as Baca says “Well I think I will start to clean the garage and work my way to my room and the junk I don’t want I will donate or sell.”

However, there is just a little unfortunate disease that always infects everyone during spring break, and it is almost impossible to avoid. The deadly “couch potato virus.” No matter how or what people do, it always strikes them. Pritchard says, “Yes! It’s like a disease that’s hard to get rid of. I sit on the couch/bed, and then I can’t get up.” Alongside that Arriaga says “Sometimes, not at first, but after a while, yes!” It is just something that is a thing around this specific time that immobilizes people from doing much of anything. Some people might enjoy it though since their plan is to sleep for 12 hours a night as Pritchard says, “I love sleeping 12 hours a night!”

The time is almost here, and students are on the edge awaiting to jump off, dive and land into the week of spring break. Even if their plans are just to relax the entire time and become a couch potato or go on a massive cleaning spree, everyone is just happy that spring is here, which means it is a step closer to summer.
