A quote can be defined as “the words of passage quoted,” usually from a famous author or commentator, according to Merrian Webster. Everyone uses quotes at one time or another; however, quotations can be a vital tool in some professions. One outstanding example of this creative technique is the use of quotes by teachers and education.
In every classroom, students will see those posters that many have seen since elementary school. For example, some say “Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?” and many others. Thoughts may pop into an individual’s head such as “Those are just corny little signs that do not apply to me.” Okay, the wording might be different, but it still applies. These sayings or quotes are there for a reason, and they give a positive push forward or a reminder to use in everyday life.
Teachers themselves have a couple quotes they live by. For instance, Mr. Button likes to live by the saying “The past is practice.” When asked why, he stated, “For this one, I would want people to not feel guilty about past failures, but know that what they did before can help them change or improve, and that they shouldn’t view the past as a waste.” Mr. Button is not the only teacher with such a saying. “Nice always matters,” believes Mrs. Gifford, who lives by this quote and expects her students to do so as well.
Señora Wendt was asked “What do you want others to understand or know when they see your quote?” she replied “Obsession is simply candy for a passionate mind.” Sometimes when people have a passion for something, others ridicule them. Yet most of the greatest inventions and things that have benefited people have come from someone who had what others would negatively call an ‘obsession.’ If you love something, sometimes it is good to pour yourself into it and excel, in spite of others’ criticism.”
