As November 12th rolls closer, the halls are abuzz with talk of the annual Sweetheart dance. Who has a date? Who has a dress? The Sweetheart Dance is put on every year by the Sunshine Society, and they are putting more work than ever into this year’s dance.
This year’s theme is Passport to Paris, and tons of work is going into the decorations to bring Paris to Plymouth. Senior and Sunshine Society President, Gaby Ramirez, said, “Our tickets have a passport look on the back, we put up posters, and we have many decorations to have at the dance too!” There is going to be a ton of lights, and they are even working on an Eiffel Tower and Arch de Triumph. “Everything is going to be so pretty and nice,” Shaylee Vice, senior and Sunshine Society treasurer, said.
There is tons of work to be done to prepare for this theme. “I don’t even have a guesstimate!” Vice said when asked how many hours she thought would be spent. “So much time and energy and money are spent on the decorations!” she added. Vice and Ramirez agreed that both Mrs. Gordon and Ms. Dorland have been slaving away, as have the other Sunshine Society officers. “We like to get the whole club involved and helping selling tickets during lunch, setting up, or cleaning up,” Ramirez added.
Despite all of their full-time work, they are still really looking forward to the dance itself. “The best part, hands down, is getting ready!” Vice said. “Having a cute dress, shoes, and jewelry, along with a fancy hairstyle for a night. Going to the dance and seeing everyone and taking pictures and dinner would be my second favorite,” Ramirez said that her favorite part is seeing all the work come together to make a great evening.
And come together it will. All of Sunshine Society has been slaving hours to get all the decorations finished for the upcoming dance. With all of the work behind the scenes, it is sure to be a great night for all those in attendance.
