Homework

Homework is a different method of assigning work for students.  Homework is seen as a negative task  for students because they have to take it home and finish it.  What they do not understand, is that it is a way to practice what they have learned in class.  The more they continue to work on a topic the better they become with  that topic.  The main purpose of assigning homework is for students to practice the material that was already presented in class. The only difference is that they must work on it independently, and most likely at home.

People realize that homework is beneficial to their education and it is for their own good. Freshman Jennah Nifong,  says, “I think that homework is in fact a benefit to our education, and it helps us when we get out into the real world.”  Nifong takes advantage of the extra practice because she believes that it is a way to teach herself in her own way, using what the teacher taught earlier.  Nifong also stated that she always does her homework because she finds it very helpful and knows it is for her own good.  The class where Nifong gets the most homework in is English. The class where she gets the least homework in is Speech.

Sophomore Sophia Keller says “I think homework is beneficial in some ways. I understand that you must practice certain things to learn them completely however, I do think that homework puts a lot of stress and anxiety on students and takes the motivation out of people at times. ”Some students do not have as much homework as others,  but Keller has homework every night. “I basically have homework every night because all my classes right now are core classes, I pretty much always have a paper, an essay or project due.” I personally think the name would have to be changed to classwork, if all teachers allowed time for homework to be done in class.

Sophomore  Megan Cooper, said “One advantage or benefit is that you can get practice on your own.” Megan does not always do her homework because of lack of time.  The class where she gets the most homework in is World History. “We have something to be working on every night.”  The class where she gets less homework in or none at all is from her 4th period class where she is a teacher’s aide.  Megan mentioned that she could get more homework assigned when she is falling behind in a class.  She stated, “That is the only time I wish we would have more homework.”

Some students have their very own personal opinion on homework. Rules are already set in stone on how homework should be handled though. The two young high school students had their own ways to view this controversial topic but one thing they both agreed on was to keep homework at school. Teachers may need to review how much homework they assign if students feel that they do not have enough time at home to complete it.
