Friendships come and go in high school but some last for a life time. Whether it is a best friend or just an acquaintance, friendships can be vital to a teenagers life.

Some of the qualities that sophomore Cole Holiday looks for in a friendship are “honesty, loyalty, and kindness. I really like having good friends that treat me like family.” He like making friends no matter who they are “because it builds up my reputation in PHS and I want people that will be there for me and [help me] through all the hard things.”

Sophomore Bayli Czarnecki has a different opinion on making new friends. She says “I hate making new friends. I don’t have many friends, but whenever I try to make new ones, it just seems extremely painful.”  Along with Czarnecki, sophomore Cheyenne Mcvicker doesn’t like making new friends most of the time. She believes that it just depends on personality, and they way the act towards one another. Some of the places she has made new friends are at camp and family reunions.

Freshman Yohoni Torres believes that advantages of making new friends are “…meeting new people of course, but it’s also making that person feel good about themselves and [proving to] them that there are people in this world that care for them.” So far this year Torres has gotten close to some friends and distant from others. Holiday on the other hand says, “I’ve made many new friendships. I met most of my new friends in PE in Ms. Vinson’s class.”

When looking for someone to be friends with, it can be hard to find someone without really knowing them, sophomore Leonardo Baca says, “I look for someone who wouldn’t just want to leech from me, I look for someone who would help me and in return I help them as well. I look for honesty [in] a person, and I look for someone who’s fun as well. I don’t like to see someone who just doesn’t care, I look for certain traits in which bound happiness and not more stress.”  Baca says that he does not make friends very often, “it depends if they’re willing to talk with me.”

People vary from one another when trying to make friends but it all depends on peoples’ personalities.
