By: Jon Sommers On the first day of school August 13, 2014, students participated in a “Compass Points Activity.” Students discovered whether they were a north, south, east or west. This activity taught and defined their strengths and limitations.
When students arrived to class on August 13, 2014 they had to partake in an activity called the “Compass points activity.” Each direction had a set of words that described them. Then the students provided a set of words that described them. Freshman Brooke Eckert said that she would describe herself as “bossy, and pushy because I like things to get done so when someones slacking off I kinda push them to get back on task.” Freshman Autumn Wilson said that she would describe herself with the words “caring, compassionate, involved (in activities), friendly, and responsible. I think that I’m a pretty nice person and I always try to help my friends and other people. I’m more reserved and quiet, but I consider myself to be pretty friendly.” Sophomore Bayli Czarnecki said “I suppose I am very picky, but I focus on the big picture. I am unorganized.”
There are four different directions: north, south, east and west. Czarnecki said “My direction was east. I think I am kind of a mix between multiple directions.” Eckert said, “North because I like to get things done and don’t really care what it takes.” Wilson said, “ I wanted to pick in between two directions, but I couldn’t so I chose west. I think that south is more of my main direction though and west would be my secondary direction.” Wilson mentioned that she “wanted to pick in between two directions.” Wilson also mentioned that she thought “that someone could be in the middle of two directions, but I think that they would favor one over the other. I think that I am one of these people and because the points can compliment one another you could be the in between of two directions.” North and South are opposites as are East and West. Eckert said, “Yes, because its possible for someone to be a little north and

south, like to get things done but cares about feelings.” Now that students know which direction they are, Eckert said, “I do see some people grouping together because their directions are either the same or they compliment each other. I also understand why some people don’t get along, but other people had friends that were opposites which was interesting to see and think about.”
