Mr. Kenneth Olson has been the Dean Of Students at Plymouth High School for almost five years now. Mr. Olson has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, a teaching certification in Business and Social Studies, and a Masters in Education Administration.
He was a classroom teacher, at Bremen High School, before he became Dean of Students. While being a teacher, “I was able to influence how students learned in my class or department.” On the other hand, while being an administrator, “I can help to influence how students learn in a much broader way.”
Mr. Olson said there is never a dull moment being the Dean of students. Mr. Olson likes working with high school students because “they have so much potential if they can just find the path to use it. I enjoy being part of that process and helping them grow.” With regards to technology in education, he has his own beliefs. He said, “I believe when used properly it can help students be more effective learners.”
Some advice for high school students from Mr. Olson is to “Make reasonable choices, and when you fall down, think about why you fell down, get back up, and grow from the experience. Everyday people face obstacles.” Mr. Olson’s obstacle is “trying to plan for my day when the actions of others regularly can upset that plan.”
In his free time Mr. Olson likes to “run, play golf, read, watch sports, and spend time with my family.” His favorite sport is golf “because it is a game all about learning and growing. You never feel that you have conquered the game.” Mr. Olson’s favorite place to eat is Biaggi’s in Fort Wayne because “They have great Italian food that reminds me of the meals my mom and grandma cooked. Plus it has a great atmosphere for dates with my wife.”
Mr. Olson’s favorite quote is, “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and are endowed with certain inalienable rights, among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They are foundation of not only our government, but also of creating a world in which all people can have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
