The School of Inquiry, also known as SOI, is preparing to have their first annual Renaissance Fair at Washington Discovery Academy on December 6, 2012. Knowing the day is soon to arrive, the students are hustling and bustling to get their booth done.
It is still a challenge for School of Inquiry students because they are presenting to younger students as their audience. Freshman Jenny Cuatlacuatl said, “The hardest part was coming up with questions for second graders. We had to think like little kids and keep our presentations short and interesting.” For freshman George Stults, the hardest part for him was “finding out an activity that would suit the young kids of our target audience.”

Their theme was selected by picking a theme out of a hat. Cuatlacuatl’s group picked from the hat the Manners and Customs of part of the Renaissance, while Stults’s group got Language during the Renaissance. These are not the only themes presented at the fair. There were others like Jousting, Scientist, and many others during the Renaissance.
On Wednesday, the SOI students were preparing by participating in Critical Friends. Critical Friends is the process in which students give other students feedback on their projects. Using this method will help to make sure they are ready for the big day.
There were enjoyable times while working on the project. Cuatlacuatl said, “It’s interesting to learn about what manners were in the renaissance.” On the other hand Stults said, “Learning how many new words were created at this time.” The Pilgrim wishes SOI students the best of luck at the fair.
