In the freshman homerooms the administration and teachers have started a program for freshman to learn about themselves and the others in their class.<\/p>\n

The activities that are done in the freshman homerooms have been focused on the personalities and strengths of the students in the classroom. In homerooms \u201cWe [the freshman class] have taken a personality test, discussed the strengths and weaknesses of<\/p>\n

different personality types, created our “one word,” and created a blog to talk about our activities,\u201dsaid homeroom teacher Mrs. Suzette Read.The activities that are done in homerooms vary and are changed from month to month Mr. Kenneth Olson said, \u201cWe can tailor them to specific needs we are seeing within the freshman class. The activities are designed to do one of three things, help develop relationships within the homerooms, help students know themselves better as individuals, and to help students develop a growth mindset. Each month we will be focusing on one of these areas for those activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Freshman have said that their homerooms are a time for relaxing, are usually pretty quiet, and are a time to do homework.<\/p>\n

Freshman students that have been involved with these activities say the activities have helped them learn more about themselves and think a little more before they act. \u201cI think that activities are beneficial because it makes you think a little bit before you do it which helps your brain,\u201d said Freshman Zachary Stiller. The freshman students have made blogs to write about their feelings and thoughts about the activities. The students are encouraged to write in their blogs at least once a day. \u201cIt’s always good to write, and I think people enjoy writing about themselves and their lives,\u201d said homeroom teacher Mrs. Constantia Wendt. Students in the freshman class are given assignments at least once a month to write in their school blog; they are mainly writing about their lives and their point of views on the topic of that week. The blogs give the students \u201ca chance to process the activities that we do in class. They get the chance to verbalize their feelings,\u201d said Mrs.Read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
