Fandoms are a way to connect with others through a shared common interest. Whether its a show, book, movie, video game, or music, a fandom is a place that people can band together and tie together people from everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Freshman Sandra Valdes is involved with many fandoms such as, British Broadcasting Corporation show Sherlock and says her favorite thing about this topic is having a community to share her interests with others, \u201cIt&#8217;s a community to the people in the fandom and it&#8217;s very exciting\u201d she says. \u201cI think that these fandoms mean a lot to me because many times I have found common attributes among me and characters or the other fans,\u201d She says when asked why this fandom means so much to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Freshman Alexis Aistrop is involved with the &#8220;American Horror Story&#8221; because she feels a personal connection with characters and the people who play them. There are also creative outlets when involved in fandoms. Aistrop uses this show as a base to create stories of her own which is also known as fanfiction as well as fan art.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Bayli Czarnecki is involved with several bands such as &#8220;Bring Me The Horizon,&#8221; &#8220;Sleeping With Sirens,&#8221; &#8220;Pierce The Veil,&#8221;&#8221;Of Mice And Men,&#8221; &#8220;All Time Low,&#8221; and &#8220;A Day To Remember.&#8221; Some people enjoy music more than TV shows or movies. Czarnecki shows her support for her bands by creating a fan page on Facebook and wearing band affiliated merchandise.<\/p>\n<p>There are also people who are a part of many fandoms. Senior Kate Peters is a part of many fandoms such as &#8220;Doctor Who,&#8221; &#8220;Sherlock,&#8221; &#8220;Star Trek,&#8221; &#8220;Harry Potter,&#8221; &#8220;Lord of the Rings,&#8221; the &#8220;Inheritance Trilogy,&#8221; and &#8220;The Hunger Games.&#8221; &#8220;I like how people can connect with each other through their shared fandoms. It has started many friendships and strengthened others,&#8221; Peters says when asked what her favorite aspect of her fandoms. &#8220;They have provided a lot of enjoyment, and sometimes distraction, for me over the years.
