Fandoms can mean something to individuals in them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

People who have a strong interest in a particular sport, art form or famous person could could consider themselves to be in a fandom. Fandoms are a way to connect with others through a shared common interest. Whether its a show, book, movie, video game, or music, a fandom is a place that people can band together and tie together people from everywhere.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Freshman Sandra Valdes is involved with many fandoms such as, British Broadcasting Corporation show Sherlock and says her favorite thing about this topic is having a community to share her interests with others, \u201cIt’s a community to the people in the fandom and it’s very exciting\u201d she says. \u201cI think that these fandoms mean a lot to me because many times I have found common attributes among me and characters or the other fans,\u201d She says when asked why this fandom means so much to her.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Freshman Alexis Aistrop is involved with the “American Horror Story” because she feels a personal connection with characters and the people who play them. There are also creative outlets when involved in fandoms. Aistrop uses this show as a base to create stories of her own which is also known as fanfiction as well as fan art.<\/p>\n

Freshman Bayli Czarnecki is involved with several bands such as “Bring Me The Horizon,” “Sleeping With Sirens,” “Pierce The Veil,””Of Mice And Men,” “All Time Low,” and “A Day To Remember.” Some people enjoy music more than TV shows or movies. Czarnecki shows her support for her bands by creating a fan page on Facebook and wearing band affiliated merchandise.<\/p>\n

There are also people who are a part of many fandoms. Senior Kate Peters is a part of many fandoms such as “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock,” “Star Trek,” “Harry Potter,” “Lord of the Rings,” the “Inheritance Trilogy,” and “The Hunger Games.” “I like how people can connect with each other through their shared fandoms. It has started many friendships and strengthened others,” Peters says when asked what her favorite aspect of her fandoms. “They have provided a lot of enjoyment, and sometimes distraction, for me over the years. This sounds strange, but I really wouldn’t be who I am today without them,” Peters says.<\/p>\n

Fandoms have affected many people many different ways, whether it be a distraction or a way to connect with people around the globe.<\/p>\n
