{"id":687,"date":"2011-01-06T12:41:32","date_gmt":"2011-01-06T17:41:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/?p=687"},"modified":"2014-04-07T07:16:39","modified_gmt":"2014-04-07T12:16:39","slug":"a-new-year-is-about-a-fresh-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/?p=687","title":{"rendered":"A New Year is About a Fresh Start"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Brittany Fredrick<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Teacher Mrs. Deon makes simple goals for the New Year, so she can actually achieve them. \u00a0New Year Resolutions are about new changes to a person\u2019s life, a new perspective on things, and how he\/she looks at life. With the new year rapidly approaching, students and faculty offer their opinions on New Year\u2019s Resolutions.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Counselor, Mrs. Scheetz said \u201c [My goals] to live healthier,(eat better, exercise more), \u00a0save money, send more cards to people,(it is always nice getting a card in the mail, visiting my Dad more often.\u201d Like many, however, sometimes resolutions may be hard to follow through. \u201cPeople get lazy and go back to their old habits,\u201d Mrs. Scheetz. Although some of these tasks prove to be difficult she plans to complete them stating, \u201c [I will] take a little time for myself to get some of these things done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, she thinks that the most popular resolution is to lose weight.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Magee, school nurse, states \u201c [my goals] are to write more thank you cards, exercise more,\/run more, and spend less.\u201d \u00a0She comments, that resolutions fall through because either they are too difficult \u00a0(like losing weight) or people get too busy and it is easier to quit.<\/p>\n<p>Even though everybody makes new resolutions, there is always the ones that are \u00a0popular during the century. People do not go through with it. Mrs. Deon says \u00a0\u201cmost people do something drastic like quit smoking or lose 50 pounds.\u201d Mrs Scheetz comments that, \u201closing weight\u201d is the popular resolutions. \u00a0Mrs. Magee, \u00a0said she also thinks that being more organized is a popular resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is hard to change,\u201d states Mrs. Magee. Making changes is difficult for people, that\u2019s why people wait to make changes in their lives at the end of the year. \u00a0Mrs Dean \u00a0comments, \u201c a new year is a symbol of a new beginning\u201d. \u00a0Even though it is a new beginning, it is also a time where people change their way of looking at things, such as, helping people more often or helping the community. Mrs. \u00a0Scheetz, states \u201cbecause January 1st is the start of the New Year so I think everyone wants a fresh start.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Olson\u2019s (dean of students) goals are to \u201close 10-20 lbs.\u201d \u00a0Most people also choose this resolution as well. \u00a0Mr. Olson, thinks that \u201cthe New Year is a starting point, almost like a new trimester.\u201d \u00a0\u201cIt is a time to stop, reflect, and restart is people\u2019s minds,\u201d states Mr. Olson.
