Photo by: Patricia Ortiz<\/p><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>By Katie Sommers<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With spring starting, Plymouth High School\u2019s spring sports athletes are ready to get outside and begin the season.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">PHS has a variety of spring sports that are offered for all the students.\u00a0 These sports include, baseball, boys golf, softball, girls tennis, boys track and field, and girls track and field. Each sport is open to all classes and begin in March and end in May.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Swinging into the upcoming season, the baseball team had tryouts the week of March 11th. With returning players and new players, the team is ready for anything the season throws at them. Third year player, junior David Walsh said, \u201cI expect that we will be very good this year and hope to have a successful season.\u201d The first game for the baseball team is April 2nd. Walsh enjoys and plays baseball because, \u201cI&#8217;ve played baseball my whole life, I have friends on the team, and I have fun [with them].\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6637\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/track2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6637\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6637\" alt=\"After school the girls track team goes to the multipurpose room to stretch before going outside to run the track for practice. Photo by: Patricia Ortiz<\/p><\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Running around the track, the girls track and field team have been in season for almost a month already. The expectations are piled high for the team as they have new and returning players. Second year varsity player sophomore Katelyn O\u2019Neal said, \u201cI believe that this year will be another great year for the girls track team. I see a lot of potential in the incoming freshmen and the veterans of the team are just as excited.\u201d The first meet was an indoor meet at Culver on March 1st. Second year varsity player and sophomore Cassi Quissell said, \u201cMy favorite part [being on the team] is hanging out with my friends and cheering for them while they are sprinting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hitting off the tee, the boys golf teams season has started conditioning practices. Varsity player and senior Kurt Corsbie said he is looking forward to, \u201cpractices and my favorite part is free golf. As the season is right around the corner the players have many hopes on how the season will be. Four year player and senior Christian Wiers said, \u201cI think we will have a good season. We have some good players with good experience returning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turning the game around, the softball team started its season March 11th. The team and coaches have many expectations on how the season will unfold. Freshman Autumn Wojcik said, \u201cI hope we can win a lot of games, but I think losing is part of the game. We just need to stick together and help each other get better.\u201d Tryouts for softball were March 4th to March 8th. Senior Morgan O\u2019Neal, who have been playing softball for her whole high school career said, \u201cI love the sport and wanted to play in a more intense level.\u201d Being a team is great experience for any sport or organization. Freshman Katelyn Berg said her favorite part about being on the softball team is, \u201cbeing with my friends and getting encouraged by the people on the team.\u201d With a lot of work and effort the softball team is preparing for a tough season as the first game is April 2nd.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6636\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/softball2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6636\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6636\" alt=\"Running through the halls, the girls softball team is stuck inside while the snow is still falling and making use of the space provided for them. As the season starts off, the boys have predictions on how the season will go. Third year varsity runner, junior Mason Reed said, \u201cI want us to win Sectionals again. Just like we did last year.\u201d The first meet is April 4th. First year runner freshman Tyler Gilbert said he is looking forward to, \u201cthe meets, I can\u2019t wait to compete against the other schools.\u201d Along with Gilbert, freshman Jake Dewar said he enjoys, \u201cbeing competitive and being with the team. It&#8217;s like making a new family to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Basketball is the not the only sport with the ball on the court; the girls tennis team started their season on March 11th. Second year tennis player, sophomore Emily Gadziola, said she is looking forward to, \u201cteam dinners and our bus rides to games.\u201d Similar to Gadziola, sophomore Carly Berger said she enjoys, \u201c[the] matches and team bonding. I love this sport [and] I love the girls on the team too.\u201d As the season has started off with mandatory practices, the team has many expectations on how the season will be. \u201cI hope it will go very well,\u201d freshman Makayla Harrison said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As spring break and spring are just around the corner, the teams are anxious to get outside and start playing on their home courts and fields.
