Amongst them is Cheerleading Coach Krysta Magee, who also holds position as the PHS school nurse.
Even as a student, Magee already had future goals in sight, and pursuing the medical field was no exception. “I was lucky and knew I wanted to be a nurse when I graduated high school,” she states.
After graduating from PHS, Magee attended Purdue University freshman year, finishing up her college education at the Indiana University at South Bend. After 11 years of nursing experience at previous places including a minimum security prison (she was happy to say), and afterwards, Holm Medical Clinic, she was glad to hear of the open position at the school. “I have always liked school nursing,” she explains, “So when I found out there was an opening, I applied.” Her job entails providing health care, support, and health education to students and staff.

On the side, Magee also currently serves as the head coach of Plymouth Cheerleading. As a devoted coach, she considers her new placement beneficial towards her coaching career. The advantage is being given the opportunity to correspond with and see members of the team more often. “It’s nice to be at the school so I can communicate with cheerleaders on a daily basis,” she comments.
As a mother of four, Magee believes family comes first. Luckily her family and friends supported her decision, and even encouraged her to apply. Despite her new schedule she and her husband as well as their children ranging from ages two-and-a-half to 9 years old, still have enough time to spend with one another. “We love to travel so we take trips whenever we can,” she states. And of course, once being a student of Purdue University she adds, “We also love Purdue!”

Juggling work, coaching, and children can sometimes be a hectic schedule. But when granted free time, Magee seizes the leisure and often partakes in her favorite hobbies which include running, reading and eating. Naturally, she confesses, “[Eating] is why I run.”
What are some of the negatives of the job? Mrs. Magee would prefer more space, admitting the difficulty of “sometimes not having enough room.” Regardless of such inconveniences however, the pros outweigh the cons. She enjoys what she does for a living. What her occupation entitles fits her outgoing personality quite well. “I love interacting with people and making them feel better,” she said. Fortunately, with a job as the new Plymouth High School nurse, Krysta Magee will be able to do just that.

By Pauline Dagaas As the 2010-2011 school year begins, new students and faculty are welcomed into the doors of Plymouth High School.
