The purpose of these convocations is expressed as a way to celebrate success as a complete student and faculty body.

With all the stress and strain of being a student, convocations can take a load off of the usual stressful classroom situations. Plymouth High School recognizes this. Mr. Condon states, “Our vision is to provide academically related convocations that celebrate the success of students and staff.”

This school has had many convocations. Mr. Condon’s favorite part of each convocation never changes. “I always enjoy watching students/staff recognized for their efforts and accomplishments.”

Three teachers received the Rock Solid Teacher Award at this year’s convocation. Mr. Peden, Mr. Kozlovich, and Mrs. Clevenger are all celebrating this achievement. Mrs. Clevenger, who is in charge of the Alternative School, said, “I was truly humbled.” Mrs. Clevenger hung her award in her classroom as a reminder to keep teaching and aiming for high academic standards. “It is also an honor to be part of the PHS team as we all work together to guide students toward success,” she said. She also would like to thank her co-workers who inspired, mentored, and even taught her throughout her career at Plymouth High School. Mr. Kozlovich is in agreement while stating, “Getting the “Rock Solid” award was a tremendous honor. I just feel lucky to be part of what we have here at PHS–great students and a supportive faculty.” Mr. Peden said, “Of course I feel proud, but I am also humbled when I think of all the great teachers we have here at PHS. Since Plymouth has decided to phase out our French program, and hence I am retiring, I have had very mixed emotions this year. However, I believe I have worked through the disappointment and am now again an excited teacher working with students. We are on a big, big project to finish my final year at PHS– the French Olympics on May 6th.”

Recently Plymouth High School held the Academic Honors Program. This is where students get recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty. Having just completed this program there is only one more convocation left. The annual Senior Awards Day will be held on May 18 this year. Senior John Hampton expresses his excitement by saying, “I am excited to be a part of it this time instead of watching it.” He also goes on to say that he “can’t wait” for the senior breakfast. Seniors are not the only ones excited about this day though. Sophomore Travis Tredway said, “It is really neat that PHS gets the chance to celebrate the students that have endured all four years of high school here.”

Students are entering and leaving Plymouth High School, so welcome the class of 2016, wave goodbye to the class of 2012 and enjoy the convocations that will bring Plymouth High School all together again next year.

By Layne Holloway Plymouth High School gets together for all kinds of things whether it be the Veteran’s Day program, awards ceremonies or even pep rallies.
