{"id":401,"date":"2010-12-03T16:49:02","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T16:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/?p=401"},"modified":"2014-04-07T07:16:46","modified_gmt":"2014-04-07T12:16:46","slug":"student-ideas-about-going-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/?p=401","title":{"rendered":"Student Ideas About &#8220;Going Green&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Jon Scott<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the United States, Vermont is considered to be the greenest state.\u00a0 Nevada is also considered the worst state at going green.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The going green issue is something that has been in the news for the past several years. However, the precise definition of the term \u201cGoing Green\u201d is somewhat unclear.\u00a0 Many people think that they have to change everything about their lifestyles just in order to go green.\u00a0 That is not necessarily the case.\u00a0 The most accurate Google definition for going green is: \u201cThe activity of adding sustainability principles and considerations into the planning process of an event, organizational or personal lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From recycling to saving water to saving the Earth\u2019s other resources, students all have their own definition as to what going green means.\u00a0 Sophomore Maiyah Czarnecki says, \u201cI think it means to save the Earth by recycling, saving water, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a situation where something can be washed out and reused, not everyone reuses those type of things.\u00a0 If one does not do things that are green related, perhaps maybe reusing recyclables will help.\u00a0\u00a0 Senior Tiffani Howard states, \u201cI think going green is recycling, using less resources that aren\u2019t getting replaced, and simply taking care of our environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When one hears the words \u2018going green,\u2019 the majority of interviewed people says that they think of recycling.\u00a0 Senior Alyssa Schafer says, \u201cI think of those sun chip commercials and how the bags are biodegradable.\u201d\u00a0 Junior Brooke Wojcik explains that two things she thinks of are recycling and conservation.\u00a0 Czarnecki says, \u201cI think of the recycling symbol because it\u2019s cool and I think of recycling.\u201d\u00a0 By going green, it would help the environment, such as not as much air pollution.\u00a0 Senior Boston Bays explains, \u201cWhen I hear \u2018going green,\u2019 I think about recycling and things about improving our environment.\u00a0 Our media has made a significant impact with these words.\u201d\u00a0 Howard states, \u201crecycling, it\u2019s the easiest way to help go green.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Going green is an important issue that has come up over the years.\u00a0 Unfortunately, not everyone refers to the term going green.\u00a0 Some may talk about it, but may just not use the words going green in their conversation.\u00a0 Senior Krysten Moore says, \u201cI don\u2019t really use the term going green in my everyday life because I don\u2019t really talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Doing things that tie into going green issues will make our country, and whole world, a better place. Wojcik explains, \u201cSaving trees and money because recycling means less need for cutting down trees and you\u2019ll save more money by not using as much plastic and not using as much paper.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By going green in every possible way, the country as a whole would not be facing nearly as problems as what there are now.\u00a0 Hix explains, \u201cIf our country decided to go green, it would help in so many ways.\u00a0 Instead of cutting trees down for paper, we can access everything on the Internet.\u201d\u00a0 Bays says, \u201cIt would help our country significantly by recycling and doing things that help lower our trash and emissions, our Earth could not explode in 2012.\u201d\u00a0 A nice thing about going green would be that we would not have to buy as many resources and the non-renewable resources could last longer.\u00a0 Howard states, \u201cIt would help our economy because we wouldn\u2019t have to buy so many resources and it will help our environment out a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The going green issue has been in the news a lot and does have some attention.\u00a0 Ways of going green are limiting\/eliminating all air pollution from factories, not burning as much fuel, and when possible, carpool with other people.\u00a0 Senior Rachael Garcia says, \u201cThink about those sad little pictures of the polar bears floating in the middle of an ocean with a single chunk of ice.\u201d\u00a0 This issue is certainly something that can be solved, but it will take everyone to resolve the going green issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jon Scott In the United States, Vermont is considered to be the greenest state.\u00a0 Nevada is also considered the worst state at going green.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":178,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[10],"class_list":["post-401","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-feature","tag-november2010"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/178"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=401"}],"version-history":[{"count":9,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":503,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/401\/revisions\/503"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=401"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=401"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=401"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
