The signs make the school look unique and different from the others.

At PHS there is diversity of students who are in clubs, band, choir, sports and other school activities. Some of these activities like to show off their school spirit by hanging signs on the school lockers. Sophomore Kate Peters said, “I am in marching band, and we have had locker signs for that for a while. I am also in Art club, Speech and Debate, and Alpha Delta Rho, and we should be getting signs soon.” Junior Blake Miller said he is in Crimson Connections, and the choir members have signs on their lockers.

There are many opinions about having school spirit signs on lockers. Some students like them to show off what they have accomplished. Freshman Clay Marshall said they are good “simply for the fact that we are showing pride for the team that we’re playing for.” Senior Kori Potoczky thinks they are good but more so because they help her see where her locker is. Sophomore Darian Sarna said, “I think they’re good. It shows others what you’re involved in.”

There are many people who are involved in making the school spirit signs for the students showing their involvement. Senior Evan Glaub said, “The parents made the soccer signs and Andrew Youst made the ones for stage crew.” Sophomore Sommer McClellan said one of the team members did last year. Peters said mainly the coaches, sponsors, officers, captains, and other involved members help too.

Most sports, clubs, band, choir and other school activities have a saying for the season or the school year. Each one is different from the past and goes along with something they do as a team, group or organization. Freshmen Ashley Clemons said, “The seniors normally choose.” Sophomore Haley Paton said the saying or theme has to with the show’s theme. Miller said we just have good funny moments in class, and when that happens it just seems to stay around for a while.

At the end of the season or year, people might keep the signs to remind them what they have accomplished this year or what they have been involved in. Others may not really care and just throw them away. Freshmen Sammi Davis said she keeps them. “They’ll be nice to have when I graduate,” she states. Glaub said he either throws them away or keeps them. Potoczky said, “I keep them and I will hang them up for my open house most likely.”

There are many meanings for hanging up school spirit signs on students lockers. Some people just do it to let others know what they are accomplishing in school. Paton said the meaning is just to show that you are involved in certain activities and that you are proud of your school and activity. Marshall said he hangs his signs up to show support for the team. Sarna said, “It just shows your spirit and what you’re involved in.”

The signs are everywhere when students walk throughout the halls. They show people who one is; what talents one may have. It shows how diverse the students are at PHS. Junior Jason Edge said the signs add color and design. Peters said, “It adds color and variety to the plain lockers in the hallways, and shows what clubs, sports or school activities we have at PHS.”

When one walks through the halls at PHS alone, he sees all the signs showing the different variety of sports, clubs, organizations and school activities. The lockers glow with color and design. The signs show diverse and uniqueness in each student.

Walking down the school halls, one may notice how unique and diverse the school, students, and staff are.
