Stereotypes have the possibility to be positive or negative. They involve people and their emotions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Freshman Nicholas Balkema said the first thing that comes to his mind when he hears the word \u201cstereotype\u201d is \u201cpeople saying bad stuff about race or religion because of what they are known for.\u201d Along with Balkema, sophomore Kennedy Snyder said, \u201cpeople making assumptions about someone or something that may not necessarily be true.\u201d Stereotyping happens on social media sites.<\/p>\n<p>To junior Nicole McGriff, stereotyping is harsh because \u201cit hurts others that surround me.\u201d Usually on her social media sites, she sees posts that are targeted towards people in different ways, and sometimes the posts are unintentional. McGriff also said, \u201csocial media sites can start drama filled post which are targeted towards several people.\u201d Gender roles are a huge part in society. Photo taken by: Yasmine Reyna<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Whenever Snyder hears the phrase \u201cgender roles\u201d she thinks to herself, \u201cthe way the different genders are divided by the way they act, dress, and think.\u201d However, Balkema feels that \u201ca male or female can do each others jobs.\u201d Snyder also says that \u201cstereotyping can ruin someone&#8217;s self esteem and the way they look at themselves, permanently damaging their happiness.\u201d She also said, \u201cno one should have to change their ways or feel any less of a person just because of something someone stereotyped them to bed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some common stereotypes that Snyder hears about are \u201cjocks, preps, nerds, band kids, freaks, dumb people, smart people, druggies, people who just party, and etc.\u201d Social media sites impact the\u00a0world each and every day.\u00a0People are unique in their own way simply because they are not like others. For McGriff she said, \u201cthat any type of stereotyping may affect them in a way that can cause them into thinking negative thoughts about life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These four individuals &#8211; Balkema, Snyder, Platz, and McGriff &#8211; all agree on the fact that stereotyping can cause profiling on social media sites. People can judge others simply because they think it looks \u201ccool,\u201d said\u00a0McGriff. She also said, \u201cthat people judge because they think when they stereotype it makes them feel like that are above everyone else.\u201d \u00a0There are stereotypes simply because the world \u00a0is full of different people, said\u00a0Platz. Snyder said, \u201cpeople in the art industry are being stereotyped because people look at them to be the free spirited gifted people but they are also always broke because they tend to lack practicality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stereotypes are still apart of everyday life, and have the potential to be an issue in today&#8217;s society.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Yasmine Reyna Nowadays, stereotypes are a part of people&#8217;s lives.
