Homework, tests, and studying can all be causes of stress in a student’s life. Read as students from Plymouth High School share what causes their stress and how they deal with it everyday.

Stress is a feeling that is described similarly by students at PHS. For instance, freshman Jewel Brown depicts stress as being a pressure that other people put on you or you put on yourself. While Senior Nadia Baca describes stress as the feeling of being overwhelmed with things such as school or family. Freshman Abby Kraszyk says, “I would define stress as just having so much pressure put on me all at once.”

The feeling of anxiety can be caused by different factors. Homework, studying, school projects, and tests can all be something a student can worry about. Brown says, “I get very stressed about school projects and homework. I get very anxious when I don’t understand something because I fear that teachers will think I didn’t try and get mad at me.” Students often talk about how there are certain things in school that causes their stress and anxiety. Sophomore Jasmine Baird states, “I can get very stressed out about school projects and homework. Having a lot of makes me anxious because I don’t know if I’m going to finish it all and I wonder how it is going to affect my grade.” Grades can show importance to a student’s life. Especially when they are worried about getting good grades.

School is not the only cause of stress, though. Sometimes it can be those who are close to students, such as friends. “My friends do stress me out,” Brown states. “When my friends have problems it means I have problems.” Disagreeing with Brown, Baird says, “My friends actually help me to forget about my stress and not feel so anxious.”

Of course, there is always a way to relieve stress. There are different activities to do that distract and help students deal with the stress that is caused by school, friends, or family. Freshman Sean Bradley says, “I read, write, sleep, and listen to music.” Kraszyk rants to her friends or writes about how she feels. Baca says, “I like to play video games and sleep.” Students have a wide variety of different activities to choose from to help relieve stress and these are just a few of those choices. Stress and anxiety can have a huge effect on how students do in school, and the causes for this stress can come from school as well as friends and family.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10310" class="size-medium wp-image-10310" src="http://social.plymouth.k12.in.us/perspective/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/image1-300x200.jpg" alt="Students such as Jenna Nifong go to the library so they can focus on getting their school work done.
