Photo Contributed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>By Patricia Ortiz<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The seniors are getting ready to leave and embark in new adventures.\u00a0 However, they are not the only ones who will be ready for a new journey to commence.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After 38+ years of teaching English, Mrs. Richter will be retiring.<\/p>\n<p>Her decision to retire came after her husband retired.\u00a0 She states that her husband was making plans for their retirement and even went as far as to talk about, \u201cwhen she retired,\u201d at the end of the year.\u00a0 Mrs. Richter also wanted to retire so that she was not one of those teachers, \u201cthat everyone said should retire.\u201d\u00a0 Once she made her decision to retire her family was, \u201chappy and excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The most exciting part about her retirement is that Mrs. Richter will know be able to spend time with her granddaughter.\u00a0 Since her children live far away, Mrs. Richter will know have the opportunity to part take in events that she was not able to before such as, her granddaughter\u2019s birthday party, recitals, Grandparent\u2019s Day, Daughters of Charleston events, and spending time with her son who lives in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Though she is looking forward to being able to spend more time with her family, retirement has also made Mrs. Richter ruminate about the\u00a0 \u201cuncertainty of not knowing what to do.\u201d\u00a0 In addition to the uncertainty that comes with retirement, Mrs. Richter\u2019s retirement has propelled her to think about what she will miss once she leaves Plymouth High School.\u00a0 She will miss, \u201cthe students, the teachers, her colleagues, and the building because everyone is so close [and] we all help each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With 38+ years of experience under her belt, Mrs. Richter has some advice to give to whoever wants to be a teacher.\u00a0 She advises them to, \u201cbe flexible.\u00a0 Your first priority should be the students.\u00a0 [Be able to] learn with them and have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teaching has been a journey for Mrs. Richter and she does not wish that she could have known back then what she knows now.\u00a0 She states that knowing anything would have taken, \u201cthe journey of learning away.\u00a0 If you knew then you would be Benjamin Button because it would take the joy away from learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her job is, \u201cintellectually challenging.\u00a0 No day is the same.\u00a0 You get to surround yourself with wonderful people constantly, all different kinds of people, but they are all good.\u201d\u00a0 All these traits have created the best part about teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Richter will surely be missed by everyone who\u2019s life she has touched.\u00a0 Her parting words to PHS are, \u201cI love you and I will miss you.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Patricia Ortiz The seniors are getting ready to leave and embark in new adventures.\u00a0 However, they are not the only ones who will be ready for a new journey to commence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":178,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[41],"class_list":["post-6851","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-feature","tag-april-2013"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6851"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/178"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=6851"}],"version-history":[{"count":10,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6851\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":8955,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6851\/revisions\/8955"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=6851"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=6851"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/social.plymouth.k12.in.us\/perspective\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=6851"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
