By Hayley Morris

“This year’s winter play is all about laughter and it also has a huge lesson behind it whether someone sees that or not,” said Junior Allie Berger. The annual winter play is written by the juniors and seniors who are in the advanced acting class.

In past years, the play has been about what high school is like. The students will interpret what they think high school is really like. This year they are changing it up a bit. Junior Lauren Smith said, “The play for this year is a modern parody of Greek Mythology. There are some modern interpretations of the actual stories, and then there are some that are completely irrelevant.” It is a great thing that the acting students are changing it up a bit. It allows others to watch something completely different than what they are used to.

Writing the play can be a huge challenge. When asked what her favorite part of writing the play is, senior Rebecca Brumbaugh said, “When you write the play yourself, it is a different experience and a different show to each individual than it would have been if we had bought a script. When you buy a script from someone else, it is their words, thoughts, and ideas that you memorize. When you and those around you write it, there is a more personal connection to the script and it is a very rewarding experience.”

When asked what made them come up with the theme for this year, the students all said that their teacher, Ms Faulstich, came up with the idea. She was at a speech meet and overheard one of the speeches on Greek Mythology. Since that day, she has been obsessed with the theme and just could not get it out of her head.

Not only are the acting students working hard, but the stage crew students are also working hard getting the stage done in time for the performance.
